I sewed for 30 minutes (or a bit more) each of 6 days. Tuesday totally got away from me (though I did go to yoga class, so I got "me" time, just no sewing).
Mostly I worked on paper piecing a block for my Tropical Whimsey Quilt. I bought this pattern at a quilt show several years ago and have been collecting fabric for it for ages. This is going to be a long-term project because it is very large and involves 12 paper-pieced circle units, and a bunch of applique (some by hand, despite what the cover of the pattern says). The quilt was made up at the show just like the one on the pattern cover and I loved the design (and the lizards) but the colors were not for me. I decided to make all the yellow parts sky blue and so far I like it a lot. I completed one block unit this week (yes, it took 2 hours).

Wow, your paper piecing block looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The great thing about paper piecing is it makes really precise fussy blocks totally do-able.
DeleteIsn't it great to drag out those old UFOs! Nice job!

DeleteWow what a first week! Paper piecing sure does make for beautiful blocks. Nice to be able to spend a little time on an older project from time to time also.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your paper pieced Whimsey block is just gorgeous! I love the colours you chose. Good move making some progress on your wonky squares quilt. Congrats on your 30/30 progress!
ReplyDeleteOh my - I am afraid of paper piecing at that level, Mary - all those points! Great job on it, though. It looks really lovely. (And time consuming! You must be very patient : )
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't even try to make a block with all these points any way but paper piecing. The pattern makes it certain that all the points will come out. Don't be scared, it is a great technique!
DeleteMary I love your paper piecing! I just started doing them a few month ago. I thought it would be too fussy for me, but it's just the opposite - you only have to follow lines and be fussy when adding on unit to another. Got to love it!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThat circle block is super cool! Great job :)
